I was scrolling on my news feed on Facebook on Wednesday because friends were constantly asking me how I was. It wasn’t until one of my friends sent me several Whatsapp messages on what has happened in Westminster. A terror attacked occurred with casualties and injuries, and the area closed. I had to reply immediately to let her know that I wasn’t in Central London, although I did have plans of going out near Westminster. It was such a relief that I didn’t and God forbid what could have happened. Another friend asked me to mark myself safe on my Facebook post to assure friends that I was okay.
As I read the news yesterday on the aftermath of the attack and finding out the identities of the casualties made me realise a few things about valuing my own life. Here are some of the things I want to share with you on how I am living life to the fullest and being grateful for it. Something that I keep saying to myself and has practised and continue to practice:
1.) Be Grateful For What You have Now!
Most people would feel that their life is incomplete because they don’t have the things they want or don’t have what the other person have that they truly desire, whether it’s wealth, health, material things, a career or the person of their dreams. I also had moments like that in the past, where I don’t see what I already have and want other things. I’ve realised to have what I desire is to be grateful for what I have now! I make it a habit to be grateful for what I have every day through saying it every day and writing it down in a gratitude journal. I write down and say all the things I am grateful for, even the smallest things such as a cup of coffee that is paid by the person queuing in front of me or when a friend gives me their last chocolate bar or buys me my favourite book. Being grateful for what you have now or for the good gesture others do for me no matter how simple it is and sincerely feeling gratitude for it, makes you feel really good about yourself and you will feel abundance coming into your life.

2.) Showing Love and Gratitude To Your Family, Friends and Loved Ones!
There have been times, that I forget to say “Thank you!” to my family and friends. They’ve been very supportive of me, giving me courage and positivity to face any challenges. I made it a habit especially this year, to say “I Love You!” to my family and friends, even if it isn’t expressed verbally. Simply showing that I care for them and sending your good wishes and including them in your prayers is an expression of showing love for them. My family is not used to saying “I Love you,” all the time, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t love each other. We show our love through actions rather than saying it.
I also make it a habit of really expressing my gratitude to my family and friends in every opportunity I get, such as when my brother and his girlfriend treated me out for lunch and coffee and when my friend positively encouraged me to start my blog and took the time to speak to me when I had problems even if she was busy or tired. I never forget to thank them for their gestures and their act of kindness. Make it a habit of showing your love and gratitude to your family, friends and loved ones!
3.) The Power of A Prayer
Prayers can move mountains. When we put our minds, our hearts, our sincerity, and soul into it, it can be very powerful and miraculous. Sometimes we pray through our religious beliefs from a written scripture or prayer book or we pray spontaneously and specifying our intentions. Some prayers can also be one sentence of good wishes. Prayers give us strength and courage. It gives us a reason to be grateful for everything.
Prayers can lead us to safety. I always make it a habit that every day, I pray and be grateful for what I have. Sometimes, I use meditation music to create a holistic atmosphere (Thanks to the power of Youtube). If you are not the type of person who makes a ritual to pray, a simple way to do so is just to sit down and clear your mind and think of what you want or what you’re grateful for. And feel it and be grateful for it!
4.) Have A Positive Mindset!
You must have heard this so many times especially when you feel down or worried… “Think Positive!.” It is true that having a positive mental attitude is healthy and makes you appreciate life. I’ve had my moments of being positive and negative, which is normal. We are human beings, and we cannot feel happy all the time.
We also have to feel sadness or we need to cry out our sorrows. There will be times when I am feeling optimistic and energetic, and then I will feel very negative and that is because I have invited those negative thoughts. But if we practice our thoughts to think positive, it manifests in what we say, does and our interaction. The effects of it can be very strong. This may not be easy for all of us, but as we learn to practice it every day, it will not feel like a chore. If a Negative experience came to your life, look at the positive things around it. One thing I have learned is to think and make positive affirmations, using positive words!
5.) Live Life To The Fullest… NOW!
This may be difficult for some, but pushing yourself to the limits can mean lots of things… It can mean doing things that you have not done before or you wished you have done, such as to travel the around world alone or with friends, quit a job you may not be happy and do what you really want to do, or learn how to play the violin or learn a foreign language, or go on an adventure trip up to the Himalayas, and the list is endless…
This is something that I have learned a lot. Years ago, I wanted to create a video blog but did not have the courage to do so. I also wanted to create a blog site, but did not know where to start?. Now, I’ve learned to challenge and believe myself to do it and I am grateful that I have started doing it (Or else you wouldn’t be reading this). What stops most of us from doing the things we want to do or pushing yourself to the limits is fear… The fear of rejection, losing, criticism, money, lack of self-belief, etc… Believe in what you can do and push yourself to the limits… NOW!
Life is too short and very precious and we need to make the best out of our lives. Our life would eventually come to an end at some point, and we need to grateful for that “One” life we are given. So let us not wait for a tragedy to happen in order for us to be living life to the fullest, and be grateful for it! Problems may come to us, but they will also go away. No matter what happens, life live with gratitude!
